Guwahati Sports Association (GSA)


Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) is a prominent institution in the sports arena of the state of Assam and the larger sports world of Assam. It was established in the old Guwahati district of Samari, with Radhagovinda Baruah as the president and K. D. Hazarika as the general secretary. The organization took its form in the 1958 decade. Although initially formed in an organizational structure, it was in the 1940s that the Guwahati Football Association was first established, with Haripad Sen (ACB) as president and K.D. Hazarika as general secretary. Notable figures involved in its early days included Dr. Jotish Das, Radhakanta Das, Anoram Baruah, Phani Datta, Naren Sharma, Jugol Das, Golap Choudhury, Animesh Ganguli, Radhajobind Barua, and Pulin Das, among others. In 1944, the Guwahati Football League was inaugurated, and despite initial challenges from British Club, Royal Signal, and Friends Union, the league concluded successfully in 1946. Friends Union emerged as the first champions of the Guwahati Football League.

History of GSA


The Guwahati Sports Association is a landmark in the sports world of the state as well as Assam. GSA was formed at the old Guwahati sub-division. The Guwahati Sports Association was born with Late Radhagobinda Barwa as the president and K.D. Hazarika as general secretary. Although published organizationally in 1958 Many years ago, efforts were made to create an atmosphere for sports. However, football was preferred at that time. The Gauhati Football Association was born on the 19th century. The association was formed with A.H.W Betting Sahab as president and Jayakanta Baruah as secretary. The Gauhati Football Association was reconstituted in 1944 with Haripadsen as president and K.D. Hazarika as secretary, even though it had stagnated during the World War. Apart from these two, the main ones who took the lead was Dr. Jotis Das; Radhakanta Das; Annaram Barua; Fani Dutt; Naren Shamma Jugal Das Golap Chowdhury Animesh Ganguly Radhajobind Barua Pulin Das Adi. In 1944, the Guwahati Football League came to an end, though British Clubs Royal Signal and The French Union. It was only in 1946 that Guwahati was disturbed by the game. The football league was successfully concluded. Friends Union became the first winner of the Guwahati Football League title.
